About Beamish, The Living Museum of the North
Step back in time at Beamish, an immersive open-air museum telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s, and 1950s. Explore a recreated town with shops, houses, and businesses staffed by costumed interpreters. Ride heritage trams and buses, visit a drift mine, explore a traditional farm, and experience life during wartime. Kids love the old-fashioned sweet shop, the fairground (seasonal, extra charge), and seeing the farm animals. It’s a vast site offering a fascinating and interactive journey into the past, making history tangible and fun for all ages.
