About Weald & Downland Living Museum
Step into England’s rural past at the Weald & Downland Living Museum. Spanning 40 acres in the South Downs National Park, this unique open-air museum features over 50 rescued historic buildings, carefully rebuilt to show life from Anglo-Saxon times to the Edwardian era. Families can wander through homes, farmsteads, workshops, and a mill, often brought to life by costumed interpreters demonstrating traditional crafts and skills. Meet farm animals like heavy horses, pigs, and chickens. Explore the woodland trails and enjoy picnics by the mill pond. The museum offers a fascinating, hands-on insight into history that kids find engaging. Special events, including historical re-enactments and seasonal festivals, add extra layers of fun and learning throughout the year.
