About Bedford Castle Mound

Climb to the top of Bedford’s history at the Castle Mound! Located adjacent to The Higgins Bedford, this grassy mound is the last prominent remnant of Bedford Castle, which played a significant role in medieval England. While only earthworks and foundations remain, climbing the mound offers great views over the River Great Ouse and the surrounding town centre. Information boards tell the story of the castle’s tumultuous past. It’s a quick, free activity that adds a historical dimension to a visit to the nearby museum or embankment, offering kids a chance to run around and imagine castle life.
