Lexden Park Local Nature Reserve has 2 different nature reserves you can visit for a fun day out, these are:

Lexden Park Local Natural Reserve

Lexden Park is a haven for walkers and lovers of wildlife. To its east is an area of woodland on higher ground which is part of the Lexden Dyke earthworks. It puts on a vibrant bluebell display during April and May. The spring-fed ornamental lake is surrounded by trees and shrubs. The small island supports interesting wildfowl, and a small wildlife retreat has been fenced off for amphibians.

What to expect:

• Flat grassy footpaths with benches in the grassland
• More challenging walks in the woods
• Small car park off Church Lane

Lexden Springs Local Nature Reserve

The meadow is rich in wild flowers, including Harebell, Pignut and Devil’s-bit scabious, and is alive with butterflies on sunny days. At the base of the slope is a pond fed by a natural spring – a stream from it leads to a marshy area

What to expect:

• Unsurfaced 500m walking route with benches
• Limited local parking on Spring Lane

Lexden Park is completely free and open all day, every day.

By foot: Pedestrian entrances off of Church Lane and Endsleigh Meadow

By bike: Colchester by bike map.

By road: Small car park located off Church Lane, Colchester, CO3 4AA. A height barrier restricts access to vehicles under 2 metres in height.
