About Pitt Rivers Museum

Enter a unique ‘museum of a museum’ at the Pitt Rivers Museum, accessed through the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Discover archaeological and ethnographic objects from around the world, densely displayed in atmospheric Victorian cases according to type (e.g., masks, weapons, tools). Marvel at shrunken heads, amulets, textiles, and musical instruments. The museum encourages curiosity and comparison across cultures. While less interactive than some museums, its sheer volume and unusual arrangement offer a captivating, treasure-hunt-like experience for older children and adults interested in world cultures and anthropology.

Opening hours

Tuesday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Closed 24-26 December and Easter Sunday.
