About The Roman Baths
Step into history at the remarkably preserved ‘The Roman Baths’, one of the finest historic sites in Northern Europe. Located in the heart of Bath, families can explore the ancient bathing complex built around Britain’s only natural hot springs. See the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, and the Great Bath, imagining life here 2000 years ago. Engaging audio guides (including a special children’s version narrated by Michael Rosen) bring the ruins to life, explaining Roman customs and engineering. Interactive displays and CGI reconstructions enhance the experience. It’s a fascinating and educational visit for curious minds.

We have a busy events schedule for families and always offer activities during the school holidays.
Visiting families can pick up our free activity trails to complete during their visit. We have two trails, one aimed at preschoolers and one for primary aged children, so there is plenty to keep little ones entertained and motivated while they learn about Roman life. Pick up the trail at the start of your visit to find out more about Sulis Minerva and discover the amazing things that the Romans made and built.
Children and adults will love chatting to our Roman characters and learning about their lives. They are not just making it up either! The characters are based on real people who lived and worked at Aquae Sulis 2000 years ago. Their stories have been reconstructed from evidence found here on site at the Roman Baths.
If you are visiting the Roman Baths with young children we would encourage you to use a baby carrier rather than a pushchair. Due to some steep steps and narrow walkways throughout the museum, pushchairs will need to be left in the main reception hall during your visit. We have a limited number of baby carriers we can offer upon request.
